On November 3, 2026, voters within Porter Township School Corporation will consider an eight-year operating referendum to help maintain essential educational programs and services in their schools.
Recent changes to Indiana property-tax law under Senate Enrolled Act 1 (SEA 1) have changed how property taxes are calculated and reduced the taxable assessed value used to generate local school funding. Porter Township Schools is facing significant reductions in property-tax revenue despite already making substantial spending and staffing reductions. The proposed referendum has a maximum rate of $0.3576 per $100 of assessed value.
Because of the new deductions, credits, and other changes to Indiana's property-tax system, looking at the referendum tax rate alone does not show the full effect on an individual property owner's tax bill.
This calculator estimates how the proposed referendum, if approved, would work together with the new property-tax deductions and credits in 2027 and 2028 using your property's actual tax information. You don't have to guess your assessed value, deductions, or current tax rate. The calculator uses official Porter County property-tax records and the district's modeled referendum rates of $0.1721 for 2027 and $0.2430 for 2028, rather than the maximum rate of $0.3576.
The result allows you to compare your estimated 2027 and 2028 property-tax bills with your actual 2026 tax bill and see how the statewide tax changes and the proposed referendum could affect your property.
All figures are based on certified data from Porter County property-tax records and the Indiana Department of Local Government Finance (DLGF). Actual future tax bills may vary based on changes in assessed value, tax rates, deductions, credits, and other factors.
